The Wine

There is no question that Blaufränkisch is the most prominent of the grape varieties planted in Rosalia, covering 60% of the 297 ha, followed by Zweigelt. The heavy soils yield opulent wines, which in their regional typicity demonstrate a fruit-forward nature, spice and a marvellous degree of finesse.

Along with the red wines, rosé wines play a significant role here. For these wines, not only the region’s DAC varieties, but also additional red-wine vines – as long as they are Qualitätswein-approved varieties – come into play. The result, Rosalia DAC-Rosé, expresses itself ias fruity and refreshing, but also conspicuously spicy – regionally typical.

The Region

Rosalia is the newest specified winegrowing region in Burgenland. This does not mean that there is any lack of winemaking tradition here. More than 2,500 years ago, the indigenous Celtic people were making wine from grapes. The combination of Pannonian climate and geologically recent sedimentation from the primordial ocean provide favourable conditions for viticulture. Fine wines are currently being grown on 297 hectares of land in the political district Mattersburg.

Culinary Tip

The assertive and spicy character of the regionally typical red wines make them ideal accompaniments for dark-meat dishes. For boiled or braised beef, the fruity middleweight Rosalia DAC is recommended, while the Rosalia DAC Reserve shows its strengths with more intensely flavoured preparations and more pungently flavoured meats such as lamb or wild game. Rosalia DAC Rosé shows its adept affinity for many possible pairings with lighter fare: crisply sautéed vegetables, steamed or grilled fish, seafood and more delicate preparations of fowl find here a very congenial culinary partner.

  • Rosalia DAC: min. 12,0 % vol.

  • Rosalia DAC Reserve: min. 13,0 % vol.

  • Rosalia DAC Rosé: n.a.

  • Rosalia DAC Rosé: dry

Taste profile:

  • Rosalia DAC: rich in finesse, fruit-driven aromas, spicy, aromatic

  • Rosalia DAC Rosé: fresh, fruit-driven aromas, spicy

Labelling: Designation of Origin (incl. "DAC") has to be declared on the front label (as far as there is no back label). The indication of a vineyard site (Ried) is only permitted for Rosalia DAC Reserve and Rosalia DAC Rosé.
